The Case for Guys Getting Massage Younger
So what do you think about getting a massage when you're younger? I get this question quite often actually and I think it's actually a really good one and some thing that I don't talk about very much because people don't bring it up and I really wish that they would. As I've stated previously in other posts I think that massage for a lot of people is considered a luxury. And that being said I think there are budgetary ways that you can sneak massage in if you need it or if your body does better after receiving a massage for medical reasons depends on how you're gonna fit it into your life. I believe there is a strong case if it's possible to get a massage starting at a younger age in by that I mean as young as 15 or 16 years old with a parent or guardians permission and them in the room during the session. If that's not a situation you can work with than the age of 18. What's my reasoning for this? There are a couple of big reasons for suggesting massager younger age. The first one is physical activity young people that are in sports tend to have a significant number of minor injuries I can show up and cause problems later in life if they can be addressed to massage therapy in the healing process I think they can only help them in the future. The second reason is I believe that there are number of young people no matter what age no matter what gender no matter what Socio economic level that I have a flawed and very honestly inexperienced opinion of their body. I think there is a significant amount of pressure on young people to look a certain way and to dress a certain way and not see the value in their individuality and this includes being in their own bodies physically. I think massage therapy is a good example of mental health care and physical health care working together. A young person who thinks perhaps for example they have big feet all the sun they realize the #massagetherapist has never mentioned their feet or the fact that they're big. That what they have in their head is not what other people are thinking. Bodywork is a very interesting example of how a person's perception does not match the reality. I have encountered some of the most physically attractive and athletic people and they have the absolute worst body image. I have encountered people who are significantly overweight with numerous health issues and they love their bodies for supporting them as best I can and yet these people could be the same age and from the same socio economic class and yet here they are having to completely different observations and feelings about their bodies. I think that some of the most interesting experiences for young people are those in which there is a safe place for discovery. I think that massage and bodywork lens young people if done properly a safe place to better understand their bodies. Men and women can learn so much more about their bodies by just experiencing that mind-body connection and that doesn't even include what happens when they realize that the person massaging them really doesn't care about the flaw they think everyone can see and have the massage therapist is passing right over it they think that they're going to be shamed or that it will be a point of conversation when in reality it's just another body. Discovering that realizing that is incredibly important for I think a young person's body image development.
