When NOT to Come in for a #Massage Session

So many people ask when do I not come in for a session and I try and break it down into two parts: #health reasons and logistics issues. When I mean by that is there is an underlying medical issue that would disqualify you from safely getting a massage or bodywork service and the other revolves around whether you can pay for it or you have time in your day or week to come in for a session or even something as simple as childcare issues. For any of the below reasons I'll typically end a session before it even begins because it will cause too much of a problem even if a client doesn't fully understand it every massage and bodywork session belongs in equal measure to the client and the therapist. This means that at any point if someone does not feel safe or comfortable with the situation is #unhealthy that the session can be ended.

So when it comes to health the most common reason why sessions are canceled before they begin is we are currently feeling sick or are more recently starting to recover from being sick or having a recent injury. There are a number of different factors involved in making that decision but the most important one is that but very simply you're recovering from something. When you're recovering there's a certain amount of healing that takes place that requires you to be less active and then later stages become more active. Typically medical professionals will tell you when is best to resume more activity versus resting. If for any reason a massage therapist believes that you're not in the correct stage of healing then they'll simply cancel the session. It's not an item that's open for debate and no many people may misunderstand it not only is there an insurance implication of working with somebody who is already injured or sick but it's also a moral one. It would not be a moral thing for a doctor to treat someone in a non-emergency situation even though they are under the influence of drugs or alcohol or allow them to make decisions would also not be correct to treat somebody who is obviously not ready for it because they don't understand or haven't been told of the dangers. This is similar to other situation like sunburn or rashes or contagions. Other situation might include things like drug or alcohol use that is recent or obvious because it can cause immediate sickness.

In the second case when it comes to turning people away for logistical issues (we’re gonna call it that anyway). If someone does not follow the correct booking procedures and provides false information about themselves or their conditions or even worse leaving out key pieces of information. Another logistical reason would be childcare or pet care because this can have a direct impact on the space and how it's utilized. This can also include things like not have enough money to pay for the session info at the time of service or not being able to get to your massage your body work session on time. A simple rule of thumb is that if you can't pay for it or you don't have time for it to cancel the appointment and pay whatever fees they may request simply because it's not worth it to rush or to run into problems later.
